one of the first games i bought and i've played it several times. one of the best for replay value that i've got.
I normally stay away from arcade games but The Great Tree is not what I would consider the typical arcade game. It has a very unique style of play that is more relaxing than frantic. As you play the game you are surrounded by art work and graphics that are amazing. The colors throughout the game blend and contrast perfectly. The music is beautiful and relaxing and some of the best that I have experienced in a game. This is one of the few games where I leave the music playing. The fairy and insect characters in the game are realistic and captivating with their graceful and sometimes deadly movements. The power ups are interesting and allow you to spread your wings, so to speak, by choosing different fairy wings that have various powers. You fly about saving the world from evil while you relax to beautiful music. It?s great fun! (I have purchased this game and completed all of the levels several times.)
You'll find yourself lost in a magical world of fairies. You'll hate to leave their world & go on with everyday life! Beautiful graphics mixed with Arcade fun.
You play a fairy, living with your kind in the Great Tree. The Swee (insect like creatures) collect special pollen that the Tree needs to survive. Right before the Great Tree is about to Descend (roots growing deep into the earth), when it will no longer be dependent on the pollen, the evil Ixies start attacking. They enchant the Swee so your people must collect the pollen yourselves and free the Swee. There are other very dangerous things lurking out there as well. The graphics are the best they could be. They are beautiful, colorful and just amazing. You need to fly around the screen collecting the pollen (floating bright dots), while avoiding dangerous insects, frogs, slumbering fungi and the most unnerving spider people ever. Gave me chills. The story is compelling and told in messages from your mother. (You are out collecting pollen.) One downside, you see the messages as text, but there is also a voice over that can't be turned off or hurried. You can skip the story, but then you don't know what is going on. I am a fast reader, so this was very annoying. As you progress, the levels (100, I think) get very hard, but you gain agility, magic, strength, etc. as you progress. Also, you can earn different sets of wings and then switch out your wings. Each set confers certain advantages. You do need good hand-eye coordination and patience to play this game. IMHO, this game is worth the price just for the graphics. Game play starts out easy and gets quite challenging. I am already playing through for the second time. Not sure if I will play through a third time, but overall, I am delighted with this game.
I really enjoyed this game. I think it would be great for when you are on hold on the phone, one might not become quite as annoyed. The music is peaceful and relaxing - Only problem is that you don't realise just how much time has passed while you are playing it! :-)
I don't usually play this sort of game. The music was just wonderful. I generally disable the music in a game within the first 30 seconds. This one has a very appropriate, non-irritating sound track. It has great graphics, and a good storyline. The game play is fun and challenging, but not too hard and the power-ups are clever. I like zapping bugs and there's lots of opportunities for just that on every level.
I found "The great Tree" to be a game that has a rather high repetition facor and mostly focuses on the player having to move the mouse around to catch small glowing points while avoiding bugs. The higher the level, the more the bugs, so it can get challenging if you proceed far enough. However, there is very little variation, and after a while this gets boring. The bugs are varied, and sometimes you need to "save" some bewitched objects, but it is not enough to keep me playing even through the whole demo. The visuals are beautiful, but overall, the game is not that gripping. There is no real quest, no path, no difference except that the background picture changes and there are more bugs. Not my cup of tea.
I wish this game went on longer. It's stunning, fun and challenging.
