For me, this game is great fun! I play these HOG games to escape and some are better at it than others. Strange Cases is one of the better ones and I'm not sure why there are negative reviews. I like the graphics and the story line In Strange Cases. Some hidden objects are pretty easy to find - and then I find I am stumped at some cleverly hidden items. The puzzles are also challenging. Try this game you might like it!
This is one of the most interesting and challenging games I've ever played. The storyline was excellent and flowed well throughout the game. There was very little going back and forth between the same scenes to continue the play, which is a big plus for me. I did have to refer to the built-in strategy guide (another plus) a couple of times to figure out the next step, but this was not that annoying since it didn't happen that often. The HO's ranged from fairly easy to find to extremely hard. Some of them were of reasonable size, others very, very small. I used the hint button quite often to find some of them. There were actually 3 kinds of HOS in the game (junk pile, silhouettes, fragments), depending on which Tarot card was in each scene. Often, all three types of HOS were used at the same time. This was a very neat idea and sure kept the game from being monotonous. The extra play at the end was actually a prequel to the game itself. This is just an excellent, engrossing game and I will be purchasing other games in this series. Don't miss this one.
Contains plenty of twists and turns and just the right amount of challenge!
It was fun and great! Definitely would recommend this game!
Was pleased with the lovely clear HOGs and good storyline. Bought it after 20 mins trial, so cannot comment about length of game, all I can say is it makes a change from dark forests and wicked lords/sisters/spirits!
I always try to do the test run on both the SE and CE to see if a strategy guide is needed (if available). In this particular game of the series I don't believe it is because I made it quite far (finished the demo w/12 minutes to spare) without needing anything but hints. The CE does offer a sneak peak at the next game so that of course lures me to purchase the CE. Tara is excellent in the beginning by finding amazing clues to this mystery from the very beginning - is it suicide? What do the clues show? My particular gripe-and not just from this game-is I like "talkies" and not "bubble conversations". I want to look at what's going on while listening rather than having to stop and read. Overall, good game, good storyline and okay for a beginner. Glam-ma gives it 4 stars.
I thought this game was quite a good middle of the road type game, not really easy and not diabolically challenging. The story line was not as far fetched as some these days but just a reasonable who dunnit type of story. An F.B.I. agent's partner has been found dead and the police suspect suicide but sinister dealings have been uncovered at the Ryde Corporation. Claire has to find the truth. The voice over dialogue is good and informative and not overly done. Most of the graphics are good and clear but with some darker areas and sections. Some of the puzzles do not contain adequate instructions and details are a bit vague. A couple needed reference to the strategy guide and some others were skipped but most were able to be solved without too much trouble. The hidden objects scenes were plentiful and were the main structure of the game. Cards needed to be found which in turn triggered a hidden object scene with either a standard list of things to find or items to be found in silhouette. Most were fairly simple to locate with just a few needing a hint. I did not agree with some of the negative reviews as I think it deserved better than that but then every one is entitled to their oppinion.
Yes we have seen the storyline before, but to say you hate the game is a bit on the ridiculous!....Certainly worth 6.99 for the collectors edition.
I bought this game in 2010 from BFG. It was fun and had a good storyline. Not bad for a Collector's Edition back then.
The story we've seen before. Agent dies under mysterious circumstances and partner must solve the mystery. I thought the graphics were quite good. The HOGs had a bit of a twist finding some by description and some by silhouette. Mini-games were few and far between and not that difficult. Voiceovers were OK, music got tiresome quickly. The only real problem I had was length. I finished 2 of 6 chapters in 45 minutes without hints. So even as an SE, don't think I'll buy.
