I was on the hunt for some Tycoon games and bought this after trialling it, assuming the 5-star review was right & thinking it would improve. But it just seemed to get more complex and harder to achieve anything. Although the game ran on my Windows Vista pc, it simply wouldn't allow me to buy film stock. There I was rolling in money and unable to make a new film unless I cadged a reel of celluloid off some passing pedestrian! I've tried 'rolling forward to a new year' as advised but still no film stock available.... Also the method by which you pick and pair actors, scripts and sets is long-winded and slow. So approach this game with caution. Make sure you trial it first and check that you can change the year and pick up new film stock as a result. Otherwise, like me, you'll be a potential Hollywood Tycoon checking into the local job centre...
This game has an original gameplay that was very fun to play. It is not very challenging but that's not necessarily a bad thing; instead of a challenge you get a relaxing game that still requires some creativity for you to progress. Just make sure you don't spend too much money - be aware that the prices of actors and scripts go up as you upgrade them! - and you won't fail. It was a nice touch that you could customize your avatar, however I would have preferred it if you had some sort of wardrobe so you didn't have to re-buy clothes you'd already bought. Some technical details dragged down my score, for example you can't zoom (in or out). I would also have liked a feature that warned you when a building was close to collapsing so you could repair it on time (the building flashes red now, but you don't see that if you don't happen to look at exactly that moment). Overall, an entertaining, relaxing and original game that gives room for creativity.
I didn't really like this game. For starters, the way you set up movies is just bad. You need to wait for the scripts, and actors you want. It can be from seconds, to minutes! Why can't it just be a simple select screen, but no, they had to TRY TO BE SPECIAL! It wasn't fun to make movies, first you select a set, and if you don't have one, you need to build it. Then, go through the horrible "selection screen", then you wait while it is made. Then you find out how easy it is to earn money, and the reviewers, you need to use a slot machine. Then rinse and repeat with all your other movies. On a side note, you need to buy wood and film to make a movie. If you run out and can't buy enough, well say goodbye and start again. UGH! The soundtrack seems to generic for a movie game. Its just not good. The visuals are also generic. Heck, they only show a small clip that keeps looping when making a movie. Its not even showing us whats going on during filming. Now for minor nitpicks. For starters, the character maker is bad. The game is also too easy, until you run low on wood and film. Finally, why doesn't it seem like Hollywood. It seems like I'm building in a barren area. Overall, this game is bad, don't get this game unless you are desperate to play a movie making simulator.
Only played the trial and really enjoyed playing, the hour passed too quickly though.
