City Style

This game should probably have been named Pretty In Pink because there's a whole lot of pink going around. This game really isn't that bad, it's what I consider a seek and find game, items aren't cleverly hidden within the scene they are simply spewn about the room making the room appear junky and chaotic. You play the role of Camilla, applying for (and landing) the position of Assistant Editor-in-Chief for a fashion magazine, City Style. There are scenes that require you to to find 20 CD's and 20 report pages and then you might have to find listed items that all have something to do with coffee. The biggest complaint I have with this game is the fact that you continue to search for different items in the same exact scene over and over until it's quite simply boring (and very pink) There are also a lot of dialog boxes to read for each character, no voiceovers. In between HOS there are simple mini games, some good some way to simple to be fun such as putting CD's into the correct case, they are color coordinated and some even have the exact words on the case and CD! I did however enjoy the sorting of corrugated boxes by having your character slide the boxes but you had to move them in the correct order or you would block yourself in and have to start all over.

Fun but Not The Best

The storyline reminds me of the book The Devil Wears Prada. A woman new to the fashion world gets her first job catering to a very snobby an detail-oriented boss. Game play is fun and challenging enough to be fresh. The mini-games are easy enough to not need a walkthrough cheat-sheet. Visually/Graphically, the game is pleasant to the eyes. Some of the items can be tough to discern because they are super tiny or blends too well into the background but I find that a nice challenge more than a negative aspect. Length-wise, City Style is perfect. I'm on Stage 18 out of I-have-no-idea. Just so it doesn't to Stage 50 then I'm fine. Now for what irked me to no end: Every make over (taking a model with no makeup and turning her into a fashion beauty) would make the model start with brown eyes, no makeup, bad hair but then to beautify her you were required to turn her eyes blue. This is playing on the very old and very horrible stereotype that only people with blue or green eyes are beautiful. Instead of leaving her brown eyes alone or adding a gleam to them they change the color completely to blue. The first time this happened, I assumed it was just that one model but I've done it twice already with different models and it always starts with brown eyes and ends with blue. This is a blatant message the development team is sending, "brown eyes are ugly while blue eyes are beautiful". This game would have gotten one star more than I gave if not for this fact.

great hidden object game, with a difference

very enjoyable, addictive, fun and moves at a good pace unlike some HOG that can drag.

It's a good idea, but...

I played this with much curiosity, because it really looked promising. However, there are unfortunately things I find cumbersome. I don't know if it was deliberate, but hitting the objects is extremely difficult. I've had to click dozens of times in several instances and once I even needed a hint to confirm that the object I clicked really was the object I needed. That unfortunately destroyed the fun factor for me. The picture gets blurred with every changing scene and that's a bit tiresome. The game gets three stars for me, but mostly for the fun idea and the storyline. Bit of a shame, because the actual scenes are fun and the stuff to look for is fine as well.
